Maybank To Spend Up To RM2 Mln To Set Up Four Maybank2u Lounge

7 August 2007, Bernama

PETALING JAYA, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) may spend up to RM2 million to set up four Maybank2u.Com lounges at high-traffic venues in the Klang Valley, said Maybank head of consumer banking, Spencer Lee.

"These lounges are Maybank's latest initiatives to provide an enriching banking experience for customers in need of Internet access to do their banking via Maybank2u.com," he said after launching the first Maybank2u.com lounge at 1 Utama shopping complex here today.

He said the lounge was equipped with four Internet kiosks, four plasma television sets, laptop tables and would open for the same hours as the shopping mall for the convenience of the customers.

Lee said Maybank would soon identify three more locations for the lounges.

He said the bank would spend between RM250,000 and RM500,000 for each lounge depending on the location.

"The growth of Internet-savvy subscribers prompted Maybank to further invest in online banking facilities.

"Currently, we have over three million Internet banking customers and over eight million customer base which is growing at another 50,000 per month.

"We expect the Internet banking to grow by anything from 20 to 30 percent," he said.
